AWDTSG meaning: what the groups are, and how they work
Updated October 8, 2026 · Not affiliated with the Tea App, AWDTSG or Facebook
- AWDTSG = “Are We Dating The Same Guy.” Women-only Facebook groups, one per city or region.
- It’s big. 182 official US groups, with more than 6.8 million combined memberships.
- Posts are about men. Usually a dating profile photo and a question: “Anyone know him?”
- Men can’t see them. The groups are private, and Google can’t see them either.
- Old posts stay up. Even in groups that have paused.
What AWDTSG means, in plain English
The letters are short for “Are We Dating The Same Guy.” The name started with one group in New York in 2022. The idea spread fast, and soon there was a group for almost every big US city.
You’ll see it written as AWDTSG, “the same guy group,” or just “the group.” When a woman says “I checked AWDTSG,” she means she looked you up in her city’s group before a date.
How a post works
Most posts follow the same simple pattern:
- A photo of the man, often taken straight from his dating profile.
- A first name, sometimes an age, a job or the app they met on.
- A question or a story. “Anyone know him?” is the most common post. Some are warnings, some are praise, many are just curiosity.
- Comments from other women who have dated, matched with or heard of the same man.
That’s the part that catches most men off guard. You don’t have to do anything wrong to be posted. One woman being careful before a first date is enough.
Who can see AWDTSG posts
Only members. The groups are private, women-only, and admins screen people who ask to join. That means three things for you:
- You can’t look yourself up. Men aren’t let in.
- Google won’t help. Private group posts never show up in search results.
- Your area matters. Groups are regional, so a post sits in the group for the city where you dated, and can be read by thousands of women there.

The Tea App and AWDTSG: what’s the difference?
People often mix the two up. They do a similar job, in different places.
| Tea App | AWDTSG | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A women-only app and website | Women-only Facebook groups |
| Where posts live | Local communities on Tea | One group per city or region |
| Old posts | Posts made before October 5, 2026 are no longer public | Stay up unless removed |
| Can men see it? | No | No |
A man can be posted in one, both, or neither. That’s why a real search covers both.
Is AWDTSG still active?
Partly. In September 2026 the groups announced a shutdown, but most were paused rather than deleted. Some groups are still posting, a few big ones have come back, and copycat groups using the same name are active.
The part that matters for you: a paused group still holds every post it had. A post from last year can still be read by the women in it.
How common is it to be posted?
More common than most men think. Across the searches we’ve done by hand, about 7 in 10 actively dating men turned up in at least one post on the Tea App or in an AWDTSG group. Those are men who asked us to look, so it isn’t a survey of everyone. Our estimate for men overall is about 1 in 3 men aged 18 to 55.
Most of them had no idea. A clean result is worth knowing too: plenty of men search just for peace of mind.
